if you see a piece of writing, especially an older piece, and it contains language that is cissexist or otherwise offensive: point it out. Make a note. But do not ever, ever rewrite it.
To change an authors words, to rewrite their opinions & vocabulary, to pretend that a certain vocabulary wasn’t regularly used- for better or worse- at times in history, to impose your experience (of living in a different time or place, of being a different race or gender, etc) onto the words of another and pass your words off as their own- no matter what your intentions or how much nicer it would be if it were so- is incredibly harmful & fucked up to all involved and literally erases our histories.
